Matisse in the Collection of the Museum of Modern Art

Published on the occasion of the landmark 1978–1979 exhibition, this now out-of-print volume presents the most comprehensive survey of Henri Matisse’s works held by MoMA. It includes 26 paintings, 16 sculptures, 6 cut-outs, 19 drawings, and nearly 200 prints, with analysis by Elderfield, Riva Castleman, and William S. Lieberman. Notable masterpieces featured include Dance (1909), The Red Studio (1911), The Moroccans (1916), and the monumental cut-out Memory of Oceania (1952–53).
