Description

Kozo Inoue (1937-2017) was born in Osaka, Japan. He graduated with a degree in the History of Western Art from Keio University in 1960. Afterward, he went to France to study at Académie de la Grande Chaumière and since then split his time between Japan and France until his death. In Inoue’s images, simple motifs are used with gradations of a few colors in the background. Despite, or perhaps because of the seemingly simple designs, his serigraphs convey sophistication and a poetic sense of tranquility. Ordinary objects, such as fruits, flowers and butterflies, are suspended in space, thus creating a dreamlike world that fosters intrigue and beckons us to enter. He was a well known artist for his beautiful, museum quality prints, he used silk screens to create surrealistic artworks which are kept in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Royal Library of Belgium, Modern Art Museum of Art and galleries all over the world.
